
Dal makhani is a type of dal originally from Punjab in North India. This dish is prepared from dried legume/pulse eaten in India.It is very rich in protein and in taste too and considered as a royal dish.
Ingredients
1 cup whole black gram
2 tbsp split bengal gram
2 tbsp kidney beans
1 cup chopped tomato
1 ginger
4 cloves garlic
2 dry red chillies
2 tsp cumin seeds powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp cumin seed
1/2 tsp asafoetida (hing)
3 tsp ghee
1 tsp butter
1/4 cup fresh cream
1/4 cup milk
5 cups water
finely chopped coriander leaves
salt to taste
Method
1. Soak kidney beans, black gram and split bengal gram together in a pressure cooker for six hours.
2. Grind Garlic, red Chillies, garlic in a paste.
3. Drain out all water from the pulses and add six cups of fresh water.
4. Pressure cook with 1 tsp ghee, salt and half of ginger garlic paste, after the first wistle reduce the flame and cook for about 45 minutes.
5. Open the coocker and mash the contents.
6. Put ghee in kadai/pan with cumin seed, asafoetida, tomato, garlic and ginger paste, garam masala, cumin seeds powder and add the mashed dal.
7. Add butter and simmer on low flame for 20-25 mins.
8. Add cream mixed with milk and simmer on low flame for 15-20 mins.
9. Garnish with coriander leaves.
10. Serve it in bowl with rice or roti.
