Gattas are indian type of tasty and spicy dish having it with roti, naan or rice. Gattas are made of gram flour dumplings and made using a yogurt based gravy and dry masalas.
Ingredients
For the Curry -
1 cup yogurt (dahi)
1 tbsp besan (gram flour)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tbsp coriander powder (dhania)
2 tbsps oil
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1/2 tsp mustard seeds (rai)
1/4 tsp asafetida (hing)
4 red chilies
1 bay leaf (tejpat)
5-10 curry Leaf (mitho limdo)
2-3 cloves (laung)
3-4 cups of water
chili powder to taste
Salt to taste
For the Gattas -
1.25 cup besan (gram flour)
1/8 tsp turmeric (haldi)
3 tbsps yogurt (dahi)
3 tbsps oil
1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)
Chili powder to taste
Salt to taste
Method
1. Mix yogurt,gram flour,turmeric powder,chili powder,coriander powder,salt and mix it well.
2. Take oil into a pan over medium heat and add the cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and asafetida.
3. Add whole red chilies, bay leaf, Curry leaf, cardamom and paprika and stir for a few seconds.
4. Mix in the yogurt paste and cook for 2 minutes.
5. Add 3 cups of water and stir until the gravy comes to a boil.
6. Mix all the ingredients of gatta in a mixing bowl and make soft dough.
7. Divide the dough into 4 or 5 parts and roll it.
8. Bring 3 cups of water to a boil in a large pot. Put the Gatte rolls into the boiling water and cook for 4 to 5 minutes until they begin to soften.
9. Remove the cooked Gatte rolls from the water and let them cool.
10. Cut the rolls into small pieces.
11. Add the Gatte to the gravy, cover and let it cook for 20-25 minutes.
12. Serve it.
