Peas & Cottage Cheese (Mattar Paneer Curry) Recipe



Mattar Paneer Curry

Mattar Paneer is a quite popular main course dish made with peas and Indian cheese.It is usually served with an Indian type of bread, Naan, paratha, poori or roti.

Ingredients

1 lb paneer
2 chopped onions
4 cloves finely chopped garlic
1 inch cube ginger
2 cups water
2 mashed tomatoes
1 cup peas
Pinch of asafetida (hing)
1 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
2 bay leaves (tajpat)
1/2 inch of cinnamon stick (dalcheene)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp garam masala powder
1 tbsp cream
5 tbsp oil
Salt to taste

Method

1. Cut paneer in half inch cubes and deep fry in oil.
2. Heat 3 tbsps of oil in a Pan, add cumin seeds, asafetida, bay leaves and cinnamon and stir-fry for a few seconds.
3. Add ginger and garlic when the oil is hot and fry for 2 mins.
3. Add onions and stir until the onions turn brown.
4. Add tomatoes, salt, turmeric powder, chilli powder, garam masala and the remaining oil and cook for a couple of minutes.
5. Add peas and paneer and water and bring to boil and cook till water reduce by half.
6. Add cream into mix curry and mix it well.
7. Serve hot with roti, naan or rice.
