Dal Dhokli Recipe

Dal Dhokli is a traditional Gujrati dish, it is relishing and very easy to cook for lunch or dinner. you can enjoy it with simple plain rice with ghee or oil.

Ingredients

For Dal -

1 cup toor dal (split gram lentils)
2 tbsp peanuts soaked into water for 1 hour
5-6 soaked cocum pieces
1 chopped tomato
2 tsp jaggery
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp red chili powder
0.5 tsp turmeric Powder
10 to 12 curry leaves
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
1/4 tsp fenugreek leaves
1/2 tsp asafoetida
1/2 tsp garam masala
2 to 3 cloves
1-2 bay leaves
1 tbsp oil
1 tbsp finely chopped coriander
4 cups water
1 tbsp ghee
Salt to taste

For the Dhokli -

1 cup wheat flour
l/2 tsp asafoetida
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp oil
Salt to taste

Method

1. Wash and cook the dal into pressure cooker, tomato and peanuts in 4 cups of water.
2. Once the dal is cooked in pressure cooker, blend dal and tomato till it turns smooth.
3. Add cocum, jaggery, green chillies, chili powder, salt and turmeric powder and cook for 5 minutes.
4. Heat oil into small kadhai and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds and let them crackle, once it crackles add asafoetida, curry leaves, bay leaves, cloves.
5. Add this oil into dal and mix it well.
6. Add lemon juice and garam masala.
7. Boiling on low flame for 10-15 minutes.
8. To make the dhokli, mix the flour, salt, turmeric, chili powder, asafoetida and an oil and make a stiff dough with water and knead well and roll out into round shape.
9. Cut the round shape into diamonds or squares with a knife and drop them into the boiling dal mixture, when all the dhokli pieces are put into dal boil the dal into pressure cooker for 3-4 wistles.
10. Garnish Dal Dhokli with chopped coriander leaves and serve it Hot.
