Dal Tadka Recipe


Dal Tadka is a specialty of North India with the spices to the hot oil or Ghee, It is very tasty and spicy kind of dish. You can have it with rice or hot rotis.

Ingredients

1 cup split red lentil
1/4 cup split yellow gram
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp red chilli powder
1/4 tsp asafoetida
1 tbsp ghee
1/2 tsp chopped green chillies
1/2 cup chopped onions
1/4 cup chopped tomatoes
1 tsp ginger garlic paste
5-7 curry leaves
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp lemon juice
salt to taste

Method

1. Clean, wash and soak both the dals in water for 30 minutes.
2. In a cooker boil split red lentil and split yellow gram with 3 cups of water along with garlic ginger paste, salt, red chilli powder and turmeric powder.
3. When the dal is tender blend it with a hand mixer.
4. In a wide pan heat the ghee and add the cumin seeds, mustard seeds when it starts to crackle, add asafoetida, curry leaves, green chillies, chopped tomatoes and chopped onions.
5. Cook them till onions turns into golden brown.
6. Add Dal into it and cook them for 15 mins.
7. Add lemon juice and butter and mix it well.
8. Serve Hot Dal Tadka with Roti or Rice.
