Lauki (Bottle Gourd) Kofta Gravy Recipe



Lauki (Bottle Gourd) Kofta Gravy is a very popular dish in north India.It cooks in tomato and onion based gravy serve with Lauki Koftas which has very less calories.

Ingredients

For Kofta

2 cups grated bottle gourd
1/2 cup bengal gram flour(besan)
1 onion finely chopped
1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
1 tsp green chilli paste
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp dry mango powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp ajwain
1/2 tsp asofoetida
salt to taste

For Gravy

1 cup tomato paste
1 cup onion paste
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
1 tbsp grated melon seeds (Kharbooje ke Beej)
1 tbsp coconut powder
1 tbsp cream
1 tbsp ghee
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp coriander-cumin seeds
1/2 tsp asofoetida
1 tsp coriander-cumin seeds powder
1 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
salt to taste

Method

For Kofta

1. Peel the skin of lauki, grate it and strain the water out of the grated bottlegourd.
2. Add bengal gram flour, salt, onion, ginger-garlic paste, green chilli paste, garam masala, dry mango powder, turmeric powder, ajwain, asofoetida and mix it well.
3. Make small balls of the mixture and deep fry the balls in medium heat till it turns into golden brown and keep aside.

For Gravy

1. Heat ghee into Pan and add coriander-cumin seeds, once it crackles add asofoetida.
2. Add onion paste and cook it for 5 mins.
3. Add tomato paste and ginger-garlic paste and mix it well.
4. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, coriander-cumin seeds powder, salt and cook for 2 mins.
5. Add cream, coconut powder, grated melon seeds and Kofta in it and mix it well.
6. Garnish with Coriander leaves and serve it with Roti or Rice.
