Sambhar Recipe


Sambhar is a popular South Indian preparation along with South Indian dishes.It is made from split gram lentils and indian spices.

Ingredients

2 cups toor dal (split gram lentils)
10 curry leaves
1 tbsp peanuts
1 cup tomato in small pieces
1 cup onion in small pieces
1-2 whole dry kashmiri red chillies
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp asafoetida
1 tbsp sambhar masala powder
2 tbsp oil
salt to taste

Method

1. Wash and cook the dal into pressure cooker and peanuts in 4 cups of water.
2. Once the dal is cooked in pressure cooker, blend it and turns it into smooth liquid.
3. Heat oil into small Pan and add asafoetida,dry kashmiri red chillies and curry leaves into it.
4. Add green chillis, tomatoes and onions into it and wait it onion turns into golden brown.
5. Add salt, redd chilli powder, sambhar masala powder and turmeric powder into it and cook for 2 mins which turns into thick paste.
6. Add this paste into smooth liquid of dal and mix it well.
7. Cook it for 15 mins and add lemon juice in it.
8. Serve Hot Sambhar with Dosa, Idli, Uttapan or Medu vada.
