Modak Recipe


Modak
A Very Happy Ganesh Chaturthi to all the readers of my blog, Modak, Lord Ganesha’s favorite sweet which would simply love due to sweet jaggery and coconut filling inside it. It is a special feast served on Ganesh Chaturthi.

Ingredients

For the Rice Dough

2 cups rice flour
2 cups water
3 tsp oil
salt to taste

For the Filling

1 cup grated jaggery
1 cup grated coconut
1/2 tsp cardamom powder
2 tbsp ghee
1 cup milk

Method

For the Rice Dough

1. Boil the water, 2 tsp oil and salt into non-stick pan and stir it.
2. Add the rice flour, cover and allow it to cool.
3. Once it get cool, knead tem well and keep aside.

For the Filling

1. Heat the ghee into non-stick pan, add grated coconut, milk and jaggery and cook over a slow flame till the jaggery melts well
2. Add cardamom powder and mix it well till it makes totaly dry.

For the Modak

1. Make balls of the rice dough and each of them into a round shape.
2. Make a small hollow in the center and place the coconut stuffing in the middle of it.
3. Join the open edges together from all the side and give it a shape like a garlic.
4. Take a steamer by adding water and oil and heat it till water comes to boil and take one plate greased with oil and steam the modak for 5-7 mins.
5. Take it off from them and serve hot mizzled with pure ghee.
