Muthiya (Steamed Dumpling) Recipe


You can think of making “Muthiya(Steamed Dumpling)”, most cooked in a Gujarati family by mothers and its quite easy to cook in countable minutes. Vegetables can be added like as cabbages, and can be made more flavoured. Rice muthiya can also be made over in the same way. It tastes as spicy as a mixture of all most used Indian spices in the kitchen. Catching up with red tomato sauce would make it super-duper trendy dish!.

Ingredients

For Muthiya

2 cups grated bottle gourd
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp lemon juice
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
1/2 tsp asafoetida
1 tbsp oil
salt to taste

For the Tempering

1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tbsp sesame seeds
1 tsp asafoetida
2 tbsp oil

Method

1. Combine grated bottle gourd, whole-wheat flour, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, sugar, garam masala, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, asafoetida, oil, and salt in a bowl and mix it well.
2. Knead it into a very soft dough and make a desire shape for Muthiya i.e cylindrical rolls, round with oily palms.
3. Add enough water in steamer bottom and place the Muthiya over it.
4 Covered for 18 to 20 minutes and steam it and if you want to check the muthias are ready then put a knife through and it should be come out clean.
5. Let the muthias cool off and then slice them in small pieces.
6. Heat the oil into frying pan and add mustard seeds and sesame seeds once it will be crackle, add the asafoetida.
7. Add Muthiya and stir over a medium flame for 3-5 minutes till it turns into golden brown or crispy.
8. Serve it Hot with tea or ketchup.
